Welcome

Dear Ardrey Kell High School families,

Ardrey Kell High School has a rich tradition of excellence going back to 2006, when we opened.  Our academic program is consistently ranked among the best in the state. Our students consistently have the highest Educator Effectiveness Growth scores in the Charlotte region. Our Advanced Placement (AP) enrollment is high and our AP exam-pass rate is among the highest in CMS. In all, we offer more than 20 AP courses.

We are located in suburban Ballantyne and we serve more than 3,300 students and families. In addition to the main building, the campus includes 22 mobile classrooms. The grounds are comprised of a football stadium, baseball stadium, softball field, practice fields and tennis courts. Our mission is to provide a "well balanced high school experience for all our students, parents and staff members."

Ardrey Kell High School offers a strong college-preparatory curriculum designed to provide our graduates with the credentials for admission into competitive colleges and universities. We want our graduates to be attractive to the best colleges and universities – and they are.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I have been an educator for 16 years, 12 of those as a principal. Before coming to Ardrey Kell, I was the principal at Northeast Middle for four years. My middle school experience has helped me understand each student’s journey to high school. I graduated from Concord College with a bachelor’s degree in social studies education. I earned my master’s degree in school administration from UNC Charlotte. In addition, I have served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for more than 30 years. I am currently a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard in charge of mentoring and advising field-grade and company-grade officers.  My wife is a CMS graduate and a teacher at Smithfield Elementary.  I have two children in CMS: My daughter attends Ardrey Kell and my son attends Community House Middle.

As principal of Ardrey Kell High School, as well as an AK parent, I am committed to seeing every student succeed. That means having every student graduate ready for the next step – college, career or the military. I believe that all students can achieve and I work to make that happen at Ardrey Kell.   We have a place for every student here and we work to make Ardrey Kell High School a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. We’re a large, comprehensive high school with many educational opportunities and we strive to make the environment feel welcoming for our diverse group of students.

Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Ardrey Kell High School.
